1. The complete predicate of a sentence gives the details about the subject.

2. Within the complete predicate, there is always a word or group of words that is the key to completing the statement about the subject.

3. This word or group of words is called the simple predicate or the verb.

4. The verb .is. marked with periods.

Example: [Weird] noises .come. {from his room} {at night}.

Exercise, Lesson 25

Instructions: On a separate sheet of paper, mark the verb with periods in the following sentences.

1. Someone else did all of my chores.

2. The crooks saw that the police had seen them.

3. If Jim had seen the accident that I saw, he would have driven more carefully.

4. Mr. Johnson did what most people would have done.

5. I did the same thing that he had done.

6. Rob ran to the corner to see if the customer had gone.

7. You should have gone where Susan went.

8. The letter came yesterday.

9. The letter will come tomorrow.

10. Steve has written for the brochure.
